  • 07931835095 - Female with a strong Eastern European accent called and was over friendly/familiar initially, which raised alarm bells immediately; why would someone I do not know speak to me using my first name as thought they know me? When I asked where she was calling from all I could hear was the word "company" but she would not state the name of the company in a coherent manner. It was a very noisy background with multiple people speaking and more noisy than your average call centre. It was though there were 100s of people packed tightly into a small space all talking on the phone. I repeatedly asked her and she repeatedly spoke in an unintelligible manner, but, of course, she was able to articulate "can you hear me now?" etc. This was very frustrating, therefore, I let her know what I could hear when she was supposed to telling me the name of the company she was calling from and I imitated her voice and the sounds she was making. She then accused me of talking to her like a dog, so I told her that's what she sounds like. She chose the description of "dog" for what she sounds like. She then went into a tirade about how she was going to close down my account and when I asked "what account?" she hung up on me! I think I heard her mention something about crypto or bitcoin but I cannot be certain. I tried to phone the number back in the hope of getting the name of the company, but the mobile phone was switched off. I will continue to phone that mobile and if I get to the bottom of the "company" I will update here.

An AI generated voice addressing my wife by her first name spoke when I answered the call, saying that their records showed that she might be entitled to compensation in respect of car finance. Eventually I succeeded in being put through to 'a human', but when that person (a male) answered after a few minutes wait (and music), with just 'Hello', as soon as I responded, "Who am I speaking to, please?' the call was ended without an answer. I wanted to know (i) who I was speaking to and on behalf of what company/organisation; (ii) how they had my wife's details and our telephone number (landline), and (iii) what was the information on which they based their call. It seemed to me that there was a breach of data protection law somewhere along the line, and I wanted to know who was responsible.
