Microsoft Windows locked due to unusual activity. Error. Ox800xdfy Your system has been reported to be infected with Trojan type software. For assistance contact Microsoft support 0808 175 7369 (helpline). I phoned the number & the guy I spoke to didn't identify himself or the company etc. He gave me a verbal 6 digit code he wanted me to enter into a smaller screenbox on my computer so he could take control of my computer & fix the problem. Various things led me to believe this was not a genuine call but a scam. The verbal alert warned me not to switch off my computer as this would give the Trojan access to all my data. In the end my husband & I decided this was a scam. I told the guy that I needed evidence from him that I could verify before using his 6 digit code and in the end, he just hung up rather frustrated. We switched off my computer & switched in back on again 5 minutes later & everything was fine. We did a full virus scan & all was okay. I have reported this to the genuine Microsoft helpline and Action Fraud (as recommended by Mircosoft). If you really need to phone the genuine Microsoft helpline their number is 0344 800 2400, but they prefer you to use the online chat helpline.
